Jamie Jones (Drums):
Born in England in 1974, Jamie emigrated to Australia with his family in 1982 and began playing drums at age 12. At age 15, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Pembroke College. At 21 he graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance with 1st class honours.
In 1996 he moved to Melbourne to further his career and worked as a freelance musician for the next 8 years before returning to Adelaide in 2004.
While in Melbourne, he performed with international jazz greats John Clayton, Jon Gordon and Paul Bollenback as well as Australian luminaries such as Pseudo Echo, Vanetta Fields, Joe Camilleri and Deni Hines to name a few.
He has appeared on numerous television shows, musical theatre stages and has toured nationally and internationally with many of the above mentioned artists.
Jamie is a rare breed of drummer in that he has a quietly introspective and humble demeanor when interacting with other people which totally disappears as soon as he sits behind his drum kit.
As well as being an incredibly forceful and talented drummer, Jamie also plays piano, guitar, sings and writes his own original music. I guess the old joke about a drummer being a person who hangs around musicians doesn’t apply to Mr. Jones!
Having performed and recorded with a who’s who of the Australian music and theatre industry has given Jamie an incredible maturity and sensitivity when he plays.
His fave drummers are Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan, Jeff Porcaro, Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta. He likes listening to John Mayer, Sting, James Taylor, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, Ben Folds Five, Peter Gabriel, The Police, The Dixie Chicks, Simple Minds, AC/DC, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, David Sanborn, Tower of Power, Huey Lewis and the News to name a few.
